Choose
The
single clenched fist lifted and ready,
Or
the open asking hand held out and waiting.
Choose:
For
we meet by one or the other.
Carl
Sandburg
“The open asking
hand.” Can hands ask? I do see the question in the hands. And it’s true – we can
walk through our day in a posture of readiness – ready to defend, ready to
attack, ready for anything; or we can open our hands, we can say “I’m waiting
for what comes.” and see it, receive it, possibly even embrace it. The question
the hands pose is – are we willing to receive? Are we willing to be open to
love and hurt? Every moment we choose one or the other.
